city wakes concerts poster photo copyright Mick Rock 1969, 2008 www.mickrock.comThe organisers of the world's first official tribute to the life and work of Syd Barrett - The City Wakes - have appealed for those who knew Barrett during his youth in Cambridge, to get in touch.

As part of the 11-day tribute, a new book is being written with interviews based on the memories of Syd's friends and family, along with some unique memorabilia from their personal collections. Focusing on Syd's early life and the exciting Cambridge cultural scene in which he was such a key figure, the book includes interviews, photos, drawings and letters that have never been seen in print before.

In an appeal made in local newspaper The Cambridge News, those who knew Barrett in the early 60s, and those who lived in the city at the time and went to the same bars, clubs and events as Barrett, are being sought for their contributions. More details of the book, and what those making the appeal are after, can be read at the Cambridge News website. To share your memories, you should email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Booking is now open for the various events, and tickets can be bought at the official website, www.thecitywakes.org.uk, where you can also find more details of the events being held.
