David Gilmour's third solo album, On An Island - which was released in 2006 - hit the number one spot on the UK album charts, and was certified platinum. At the time it came out, for a limited time you could get your hands on the album on a very nicely put together vinyl package, which included a large poster within its gatefold loveliness.
As is common with many such things, this edition quickly sold out in most places, and if you take a look around now, those offering decent quality examples of the album normally put a price of up to £200 for it.
As we told you last month, on October 9th, a limited edition, 180 gram heavyweight vinyl reissue took place, with copies available to order now through this direct link and from initial comments we've had, it's a reissue that if you've not got the original version, you will definitely want to snap up soon before these all go as well and start commanding high prices too!
With thanks to a few correspondents, such as BD visitor Tim, we now know that the reissue is presented in the same way as the original - i.e. with the gatefold sleeve, and large poster. Most importantly, sonically it is said to be superb, with a depth and quality that shows great care was taken of this heavyweight vinyl presentation of David's third album. Amazon UK will ship the record worldwide and use oversized packaging to hopefully help it arrive at its destination in great shape (of course, as ever dependent on local postal handlers!).
