Last night, the winners of the 2006
MOJO Magazine awards were announced, and amongst these was David
Gilmour, winning the Lifetime Achievement Award for his solo work, and
his work with Pink Floyd.
With the award presented to him
by Phil "el Magnifico" Manzanera (his friend, next-door neighbour and
key part of the On An Island album and tour), David's contribution to
the music industry was aptly marked at the ceremony held at Shoreditch
Town Hall, in East London. The award was sponsored by Ryko, and chosen
by MOJO Magazine.
Other artists recognised last
night included Elton John (winning the Hall of Fame award), the late
Johnny Cash (Catalogue Release of the year), The Buzzcocks (Inspiration
award), Jools Holland (MOJO Medal), Brian May (Les Paul Award for
Guitar Playing) and Chrissie Hynde (Songwriter award).
Winner of the Icon award was legendary singer Scott Walker, who made a rare public appearance to accept his award.
Full coverage of the event will be in Mojo Magazine itself soon. As we get details of this, we will let you know.
