Our congratulations to David Gilmour on this afternoon's announcement that he has been awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement prize in the 53rd Ivor Novello Awards, which recognises the best British songwriters and composers.
The 2008 winners were revealed at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, and comes just 24 hours after Pink Floyd were awarded the Polar Music Prize. Well done from all the Brain Damage team!
UPDATE: There are a trio of nice pictures to be found over at David's excellent blog site which show him receiving the award from long-time friend Robert Wyatt.
On receiving the award, he said: "Here I am getting the Lifetime Achievement award. Well it's been a long, bumpy road, but thank you very much indeed... Let's hope in about another 20 or 30 years Amy Winehouse gets given one for long service." UK newspaper The Sun reported that David apparently had troubles getting past Security on his way in as he didn't have a ticket, and they didn't recognise him!
