With David Gilmour and his band
currently taking a break from touring, we've got a news wrap-up for you
concerning his activities.
First off, David is appearing
every day this week on Ken Bruce's morning show on BBC Radio 2. Ken has
a regular feature - "Tracks Of My Years" - which focuses on an artist's
favourite tracks. Today, David chose "God Only Knows" by the Beach
Boys, and "The Wind Cries Mary" by Jimi Hendrix, and explained to Ken
what makes them so special.
You'll need to tune in each day to hear his subsequent selections (or visit
the BBC website
where all ten tracks are listed!). In the UK, BBC Radio 2 can be heard
on FM and DAB radio, via Freeview, Satellite (Sky), or cable services
(NTL, Telewest). It can also be listened to live (and repeated for up
to seven days following broadcast) via www.BBC.co.uk/radio2.
Today's segment appeared around
11:40am - so if you are doing the "listen again" option, you will need
to fast forward a couple of hours to get to the relevent part.
Another country will be airing
the Mermaid Theatre, London show from March 7th, that was originally
aired on BBC Radio 2. Our German friends need to tune in to NDR2,
on May 22nd, where the "Radiokonzert" show will be broadcasting the
whole recording. The show normally airs at 9pm, but please check closer
to the time if you are tuning in to this one. Our thanks to Börbel for

at the Mermaid Theatre recording was Ian McNabb, ex-singer of Icicle
Works, who supported David on his About Face tour in 1984. Sitting
behind him at the Mermaid, was BD regular Matt Shaw. The two of them
got chatting, and cutting a long story short, at McNabb's concert at
the Robin 2 in Bilston last night (April 23rd), Wish You Were Here was
played. Matt told us: "I managed to cajole him into playing [it]. The
audience sang along to every word – I was speechless – he is an amazing
singer/songwriter, and to hear him pay a genuine tribute to Pink Floyd
was moving."
We mentioned back on March 29th
that David and his band are due to appear in the latest series of
"Later With... Jools Holland" on BBC2 television. We now know that the
show is being recorded on May 23rd, with transmission being the evening
of May 26th. David Crosby and Graham Nash are also due to be guests on
the same show, making them a good bet for appearing at the UK shows!
Tickets for the Jools Holland
recording were available - briefly - via the BBC ticket unit on April
20th, but went like the proverbial hot cakes. We only found out about
the ticket availability once they'd all gone, so apologies for that! We
obviously wish we could have given you advance notice...

In
our final news item, the Save The Earth Foundation were invited by
David’s manager to meet up backstage at his April 17th show in Oakland,
to sign the guitar shown to the right for their 2006 Auction.
With a $1,500 starting bid, the
guitar features David's signature and inscription to this most worthy
of charities - with the effects of global warming and other potentially
catastrophic events looming, their work is essential at raising
awareness. The auction is to help raise funds for the organisation, and
also features a host of similar memorabilia from other top artists such
as the Rolling Stones, Queen, Radiohead, Sting, and more...
The guitar is a custom Fender
Stratocaster, used but in great condition. It was made in Japan in
1997-98, and includes a "David Gilmour" pick and soft fabric backpack
style carrying case. You can see more pictures of the guitar, and place
