The November 2005 edition of the
UK's Guitarist magazine has an interesting feature on David Gilmour,
looking at his ten best guitar moments.
The feature is a mix of reportage
and interview segments with David, focusing on the exact tunings or
effects used to create the trademark sound in each song.

There is also
a "Did you know" type fun fact that accompanies each entry - some of
which are well known, some not such well known (an example being Storm
Thorgerson's original idea for the Meddle album cover!).
To accompany the piece are a nice
selection of pictures of David in action with the band over the years,
ranging from 1968 to the present day. Thankfully some of the pictures
used are uncommon examples, which makes a change from the usual shots
that appear.
Any list of "best moments" courts controversy, but none-the-less, here is what they came up with:
- One Of These Days
- Echoes
- Money
- Shine On You Crazy Diamond
- Dogs
- Comfortably Numb
- Another Brick In The Wall (pt 2)
- The Fletcher Memorial Home
- Sorrow
- Coming Back To Life
In
addition to the feature, the magazine and cover CD features a tutorial
for Comfortably Numb, giving instruction on how to play the classic
track, and includes a shot of David from Live 8.
Elsewhere in the magazine, there is also a huge feature on Led Zeppelin, looking at the inside story of Physical Graffiti.
The magazine is now available in
the UK, and from selected outlets outside the UK as an import. Our
thanks to John Johnstone for his help in bringing this story to you.
