More details have emerged of David Gilmour's appearance in front of a tiny, invited audience at London's Abbey Road Studios, courtesy of his own website.

David and his full touring band were in Studio One, the largest at the Studios, on Tuesday, August 29th. Studio One is where many classic orchestral scores and recordings have been made over the years, from film soundtracks through to orchestral segments on David's "On An Island" album.

His appearance there last week was for his part in a major new music series - Live From Abbey Road - which will see some of the world's biggest artists performing their songs there. Other artists due to take part (on other days) include The Who, Paul Simon and Diana Ross.

David's site reveals what occurred behind those very famous, closed doors: the band performed several takes of On An Island, The Blue, Take A Breath, and Smile, from David's On An Island album, as well as Astronomy Domine from Pink Floyd's very first album, The Piper at The Gates of Dawn, before surprising everyone with an impromptu acoustic portion of Echoes.

They continue by revealing that, off camera, the band also jammed on tracks such as The Beatles' Come Together, Wild Cherry's Play That Funky Music and The Rolling Stones' Play With Fire. Mouthwatering stuff, and what a shame the whole lot wasn't captured on tape!

The complete series of twelve, sixty minute specials will have their premiere on the UK's Channel 4 TV from November 26th, 2006, coinciding with the studios' 75th anniversary, and David's special is due to air on December 3rd.

The good news for Floyd fans worldwide is that the series will be shown internationally, as the distribution rights have been picked up by a major media concern. Currently, Europe looks to be in Spring 2007, and the US/Canada from June 2007. As we get more details of the show in the various countries we will let you know.
