Bringing real music to the dance
world, Swedish house DJ Eric Prydz has sampled Pink Floyd's classic
“Another Brick In The Wall” for his forthcoming dance record “Proper
Education.”
The single, which has already
appeared on BBC Radio 1's playlist despite it being seven weeks until
release, is his follow up to the 2004 chart topper “Call On Me.” and
promises to repeat the success of the Floyd's own release of the track,
the last UK number one of the 1970s, and the first of the 1980s.
Many will remember Prydz's last
single for its imaginative sampling of Steve Winwood's "Valerie", but
most will be unable to forget the promotional video for the song. In
case you need reminding, it featured an aerobics class, and VERY small
costumes! Overall, it sold some two million copies worldwide.
"Proper Education" blends key
elements of the 1979 track, principally David Gilmour's vocals, the
kids chorus (way back in the mix) and guitar work, all of which has
been officially cleared. Having heard a number of different mixes of
the track, we've been impressed with the treatment, which is
intelligent and sensitive. A driving bass line propels the music along
nicely, and we're sure it's going to be a big hit all over again. Dying
to see how the promo video for it, too!
The single hits the stores on
January 1st on Data Records through the Ministry Of Sound label. You
can hear a taster of the track over at MinistryOfSound.com.
