Something a little different for you today; as part of the promotion of the newly released 5.1 surround mix of Roger Waters' Amused To Death on SACD and Blu-ray, as well as remastered versions on vinyl and CD, a very talented artist called Chris Carlson has recreated the new cover in 3D, just using chalk...

David Gilmour interview in new Uncut Magazine Print E-mail

Uncut Magazine issue 220/September 2015 - exclusive David Gilmour interviewOfficially on sale in the UK from today, July 28th, the September 2015/issue 220 of the UK's Uncut magazine has a eye-catching cover featuring David Gilmour, alongside the strapline of 'Beyond Pink Floyd - A New Dawn'.

The 11-page world exclusive interview is fascinating stuff, and handsomely illustrated with some new pictures and a range of older shots. With the interview taking place as Gilmour's upcoming album Rattle That Lock was being finalised, he talks about the creation of the album, the origins of some of the material, and reveales some of the personnel involved.

The lion's share of the piece has Gilmour, as well as the likes of Aubrey "Po" Powell, reflecting on their history. There's also talk of the future, including the possibility of another solo album before too long...

Elsewhere in the magazine are features on, amongst others, the Grateful Dead, including a special cover-mounted CD compiling a live version of an album which never had an official release. Also, in the week following the Newport Folk Festival, in which Roger Waters played a well-received set, there's a look back at the earlier days of the event.

You can buy Uncut in all good UK stores from today (although a handful seemed to have been selling it the last couple of days), and it will be available in selected outlets worldwide as an import. Alternatively, you can buy it (again, worldwide) via the Newsstand website.

David Gilmour announces tour 'preview' show in Brighton Print E-mail

David Gilmour Live 2015 tour poster

Just announced is a special, extra 'preview show' kicking off David Gilmour's 2015 European tour. The concert takes place at the Brighton Centre, a relatively modern venue, built in the 1970s, which has seen some significant concerts in the past, such as Bing Crosby's final public appearance and The Jam's farewell concert, to name just two. Now, David Gilmour is joining the list of luminaries playing at the south coast venue.

The concert takes place on Saturday, September 5th at 7:30pm, so giving fans an early sneak preview of the new album, Rattle That Lock, which is released almost two weeks later. It also comes a week before the first 'proper' show of the tour which is being held in the Croatian city of Pula. Tickets are now available on a limited presale before going on general sale at 10am UK time tomorrow (Monday) through this direct link.

As with the London Royal Albert Hall shows, there are some ticketing considerations. Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult, and tickets are limited to four per person, per household. The ticketholder's name will be printed on the ticket, and photo ID checks will be in place on arrival to confirm customer identity, in order to limit re-sale of tickets on the secondary market. To gain entrance to the venue, the ticketholder HAS to be present.

Roger Waters - Newport Folk Festival

Last night, Roger Waters headlined the Newport Folk Festival, in Rhode Island, USA. The performance was said - according to early reports - to have been excellent. We've got a review of the show, with some pictures, but in the meantime, here's a bit of detail of the appearance.

Waters was backed by My Morning Jacket who also filled the "unannounced" slot on Friday's Newport Folk schedule. MMJ did their own set before Waters came out with G.E.Smith and Lucius's Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig and opened with a new song, "Crystal Clear Brooks." Waters played piano on this debut, then moved to an acoustic guitar for the rest of the set.

Setlist: Crystal Clear Brooks, Mother, Bravery Of Being Out Of Range, Hello In There, Wish You Were Here (with Sara Watkins), Wide River To Cross (with Levon Helm's daughter Amy), Amused To Death, Brain Damage/Eclipse, Forever Young (with Amy Helm and Sara Watkins).

Roger Waters - Amused To Death advertising campaign in London, 2015To tie in with the worldwide release tomorrow of the 2015 edition of Roger Waters' Amused To Death, including as 5.1 surround sound mixes found on the SACD (Super Audio CD) and the Blu-ray editions, Roger's creative team have clearly been at work again, and London was the recipient of their efforts to ensure locals and visitors alike were made aware of Roger's 1992 opus.

The pictures here, below (supplied by our friends at Sony) show the BBC's London headquarters (coincidentally a stone's throw from where Roger recently unveiled, with Nick Mason, the plaque to the band's honour at the University of Westminster), and also (as if it needed clarification) the world famous Houses of Parliament next to the Elizabeth Tower (which houses Big Ben, the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock in the tower).

The picture at the top of this article shows what was seen this evening on a pavement near London Bridge... our thanks to Steve Frost for this particular picture.
