Guy Pratt is the Sideman - Stroud, Glos, March 2018Next Friday, March 9th, Guy Pratt takes his hilarious one-man show to The Marshall Rooms in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Guy Pratt is the Sideman celebrates more than 30 years as bass player to many of the biggest names in music, from Pink Floyd to Roxy Music, Michael Jackson, Madonna, and many more. Find out the truth of what it is like to tour and record with such people, with Guy's candid and very funny storytelling boggling the mind at times!

Doors to the event open at 8pm, and tickets are now available through Ticketweb.uk.

If you can't attend Guy's show next week, there's another opportunity as, just announced is his appearance at the 2018 Borris House Festival of Writing and Ideas. The three-day event, which takes place from the 8th to the 10th June, is held in Co. Carlow, Ireland.

Guy's appearance currently looks to be Friday, 8th June, but interested attendees should check with the organisers before purchasing their tickets. Other musicians also appearing in the festival include Viv Albertine from The Slits, and Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones.

Borris House is said to be one of the most spectacular houses in Ireland. It sits at the foot of the Blackstairs Mountains, on the banks of the River Barrow, in the small village of Borris in the hinterland of South County Carlow. In case the festival sounds familiar, David Gilmour and Polly Samson appeared at the 2015 staging.

Weekend and day tickets for the event are now on sale, through Eventbrite.ie. In early April they will release limited tickets to individual talks.

Shooting the David Gilmour Live at Pompeii concerts Print E-mail

Definition Magazine - February 2018: David Gilmour featureThe February 2018 issue of Definition Magazine has an interesting, if technical, article about the filming of the David Gilmour Live at Pompeii concerts back in July 2016.

The article takes a detailed look at the equipment used for the brace of shows in the iconic Italian venue, and the considerations for filming. It also takes a look at the process which follows filming - it is clearly not a simple thing getting footage from vastly different bits of kit matching sufficiently to give seamless edits and a cohesive feel.

The article includes lengthy input from James Tonkin at Hangman Studios, who details things for the readership of this publication (which is aimed at professionals in that sort of field). It does demonstrate (if such a thing is required) the amount of care and attention which was put into every aspect of the filming of the concerts - something that they could only do that time and reshoots after the event were of course out of the question.

The publishers have now put the article online, and it can be read over at the DefinitionMagazine.com website.

Many thanks to Julian Mitchell from Definition Magazine, and to Colin Sanders for his generous assistance.

Pink Floyd questions on Mastermind - test yourself! Print E-mail

BBC MastermindOn Friday evening, BBC One TV's Mastermind included Pink Floyd as one of the contestants' chosen subjects, and you can now see how YOU might have done if sat in the intimidating black chair, as we have all the posed questions below!

For those of you unfamiliar with this show, in a nutshell, four contestants take it in turns to answer questions over two rounds, against the clock. The first 90 second round comprises questions on each contestant's chosen specialist subject, and the second round, which lasts two minutes, tests general knowledge. The winner of each contest goes forward to the next knockout phase of the competition. It is one of the most popular quiz programmes on television, having run for around forty-six years.

It's only the third time in the programme's history that someone has chosen to answer questions about Pink Floyd. Now it's time to test yourself - how many of the following questions do you know the answer to?

Pink Floyd returns again to BBC TV's Mastermind Print E-mail

BBC's MastermindBrain Damage visitors with good memories will recall that back in October 2005, and November 2014, BBC's Mastermind included Pink Floyd as one of the contestants' chosen subjects.

For those of you unfamiliar with this show, in a nutshell, four contestants take it in turns to answer questions over two rounds, against the clock. The first round, 90 seconds long, comprises questions on each contestant's chosen specialist subject, and the second, two-minute round, tests general knowledge. The winner of each contest goes forward to the next knockout phase of the competition. It is one of the most popular quiz programmes on television, having run for almost forty-six years.

For the third time in the programme's history, someone has chosen to answer questions about Pink Floyd - and this week's show, which airs on the UK's BBC Two this coming Friday night, February 23rd, at 8pm (except in Wales for some reason!). More details can be found at the BBC website. Our thanks to David Haddock for letting us know about this.

As before, we will make a note of the questions (and the given answers) so you can all give the quiz a try - especially those who don't want the pressure of answering the questions 'live' in front of their families!
