Roger Waters - Flickering Flame 2 Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Monday, 10 March 2003

Last year, we asked for suggestions from you for tracks that could be included in a future Roger Waters "best of" compilation. This was inspired by the fact that Flickering Flame was called Volume 1... Last month, we posted the results here and also submitted them to Roger Waters and Mark Fenwick, his manager, for their deliberation.

Mark has now responded back to us. Despite your excellent suggestions for tracks that could be considered for Volume 2, "there are no plans for a follow up to Flickering Flame in the foreseeable future. Roger is currently working on a new album and of course, Ca Ira". Nevertheless, we are sure that your suggestions proved very interesting and food for thought!

Dark Side vinyl edition information Print E-mail

Monday, 10 March 2003

The excellent High Fidelity Review website has a nice piece on the vinyl mix/pressing of the 30th anniversary edition of Dark Side Of The Moon. In their exclusive story, reached by clicking this link, they reveal the lengths that have been taken to ensure that the vinyl release, now scheduled for April 8th, is seen as a true audiophile experience, along with a picture of the mastering team hard at work.

As stated previously on these news pages, the vinyl edition of Dark Side will not be featuring the new "stained-glass window" design, but will have all the original artwork and packaging - down to the stickers and poster that came with original pressings of the album in the seventies.

James Guthrie interview Print E-mail

Italian fanzine Hey You will be publishing an exclusive interview by our friend Chris Diemoz (author of the recent Italian book mentioned elsewhere on these pages) with James Guthrie, who answered 11 questions about Pink Floyd and the making of the new edition of Dark Side. Here's an extract for you:

Chris: Had you some fears in "putting your hands" on such a masterpiece?
James Guthrie: "Daunting" is a word that comes to mind! I think this is probably one of the most difficult 5.1 mixes. Not from a musical point of view, because the record really lends itself to 3-dimensional treatment. But from the point of view that everyone knows the original mix so well. It is indelibly printed on our minds. We've had 30 years to live with it, and some people don't want that image to be altered. Knowing that you are about to start work on something controversial can be unsettling..."

The rest will be in the next issue of Hey You fanzine.

Sunday, 09 March 2003

The BBC, buoyed by the unexpected success and interest in the Omnibus programme, "The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story" (released on DVD shortly - detailed elsewhere on these pages), is currently preparing another documentary on the life of Syd and the early iteration of Pink Floyd.

Hopefully, more archive film will be unearthed and shown. As yet, a broadcast date has not been scheduled.

Roger Waters interview on new DVD Print E-mail

Sunday, 09 March 2003

The excellent website The Digital Bits has just reviewed the DVD release of the film, "The Legend Of 1900". Of particular interest is the news that amongst the added value on the disc, is a brief interview with Roger Waters. However, their review isn't over-enthusiastic about it:

"Extras are slim, although collectors of Ennio Morricone's work might find this disc worth picking up solely for the isolated music and effects track. Image has also included a "music video" for the end credits song, Lost Boys Calling, performed by Roger Waters and Edward (he'll always be Eddie to me) Van Halen. I put music video in quotes because this is an odd duck of a video if ever there was one. It begins with interview footage of Waters, explaining how he got involved in the project. Then just as you start to think, "Oh how cool, I didn't know there was an interview with Roger Waters on here," (it took me about 6 seconds), the interview dissolves into the song, accompanied by footage from the movie. It's not much of a video, it's even less of an interview, and the song itself does not rank with Waters' finest work."

Swing over to their site for the full review.
