We know that many of you are chomping at the bit, eager to get your hands on the two new, 40th anniversary editions of Pink Floyd's 1967 début album, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn - the regular 2CD set, and the expanded 3CD set which is housed in a very special, Storm Thorgerson designed package (see picture on right).
We now have details on how you can pre-order either (or indeed, both, should you wish) along with the track listing of what looks a nicely designed and put-together package...
The special and regular editions are planned for release via EMI Records on Monday, September 3rd in Europe, and on Tuesday, September 4th in North America. (There was earlier a slight variation in dates but these are confirmed now as 3rd/4th). The packaging of the special edition, designed by Storm Thorgerson, resembles a cloth-covered book, and holds 3 CD discs, along with a 12-page reproduction Syd Barrett notebook. The front of the package retains Vic Singh's iconic cover photograph.
Discs 1 and 2 will contain the full 'Piper' album, represented in both stereo and mono versions. Both have been newly remastered by James Guthrie.
Disc 3 includes the following: all the Pink Floyd singles from 1967, ('Arnold Layne', 'See Emily Play', and 'Apples And Oranges'), plus the B sides 'Candy And A Current Bun' and 'Paintbox'. The other tracks are a version of 'Interstellar Overdrive' - Take 2 of the original recording sessions, previously only available on an EP in France - and the 1967 stereo version of 'Apples And Oranges'.
For those who are just after the album, there is a 2CD set which doesn't include the third disc of extra tracks, nor is it in the special "notebook" packaging. This is being sold at a lower price.
