To celebrate Record Store Day 2020 (Saturday, April 18th), Pink Floyd are releasing a live recording of the band's first single, Arnold Layne. The limited-edition, one-sided Record Store Day 7" vinyl - the latest release from Pink Floyd Records (which was formed in June 2016) represents the last live performance of Pink Floyd with David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright all together in 2007, and was mixed by Damon Iddins. This special performance of Arnold Layne took place at the Syd Barrett Tribute Concert 'The Madcap's Last Laugh' held at London's Barbican on May 10th that year. David, Nick and Richard were augmented by Jon Carin (on keyboards and vocals) and Andy Bell from Oasis (bass guitar). After a great line-up throughout the evening, including Roger Waters in the first half, Pink Floyd took to the stage for an incredibly emotional finale. The concert was held to pay homage to Barrett, who had died a year earlier and sadly became the final performance of the Floyd to include Richard, who passed away the year after. It was also Richard's penultimate live performance. The artwork for the release features the titular Arnold in handcuffs (after having been arrested for stealing women's clothes from their washing lines). Pink Floyd Creative Director Aubrey 'Po' Powell oversaw the sleeve, newly created by long-time Floyd collaborators, photographer Rupert Truman and designer Peter Curzon, both of StormStudios. New art extends to the B-side of the single, which features an exclusive etching of handcuffs to echo the sleeve and the song's lyrics. This 7" single follows the popular RSD release of A Saucerful Of Secrets in mono in 2019, and is released via RSD participating stores on 18th April 2020 - go to RecordStoreDay.com for more details of who those will be. A reminder that it will ONLY be these stores participating; the stores themselves can't sell it online - the record will become available for customers coming through the door of the store from the morning of the 18th (and not before), in limited quantities - first come, first served, and only one copy per customer. After RSD, if copies remain, they may put them for sale online (and of course, there'll also be copies on eBay inevitably...). As with the other RSD 2020 releases, we reiterate that this is a limited edition: often the RSD releases are pressed up as just a couple of thousand or so worldwide. We understand that there are going to be 7,400 of these available to snap up on the day. The full list of RSD releases for 2020 is due to be revealed very shortly. UPDATE, 13th March: Due to the COVID-19/Coronavirus pandemic, RSD2020 has moved from 18th April, to 20th June. Obviously as the situation develops, if circumstances demand the date may change again. |

Some good news for those of you who are in France - and in particular the south of the country: Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets have just announced a further date on their 2020 European tour. The band will be playing the rather attractive looking Theatre de la Mer in Sete, France, on June 30th. This open-air amphitheatre should be a spectacular venue to see the band in action! With a backdrop like this, maybe it should be Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sea? Maybe not! Tickets have just gone on sale, and you can get them through this direct link at Digitick.com. As ever, we have set up a show page for this event, which can be seen either via the Nick Mason's SOS 2020 link in the left hand menu, or click on the link at the start of the paragraph above. |

As you'll no doubt be aware, legendary drummer Mick Fleetwood enlisted an all-star cast for a one-of-a-kind concert, in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust, which was held on Tuesday evening (25th February) at London's Palladium. Tickets for Mick Fleetwood & Friends Celebrate The Music Of Peter Green And The Early Years Of Fleetwood Mac, when it was announced, sold out in near record time, and that was no surprise when the announced bill (later expanded a little) was revealed. The bill included Billy Gibbons, David Gilmour, Jonny Lang, Andy Fairweather Low, John Mayall, Christine McVie, Zak Starkey, Steven Tyler, Bill Wyman, Noel Gallagher, Pete Townshend, Neil Finn, Kirk Hammett and many more. Legendary producer Glyn Johns joined as the executive sound producer and the house band featured Fleetwood himself along with Andy Fairweather Low, Dave Bronze and Ricky Peterson. Fleetwood, who curated the list of artists performing, said: "The concert is a celebration of those early blues days where we all began, and it's important to recognize the profound impact Peter and the early Fleetwood Mac had on the world of music. Peter was my greatest mentor and it gives me such joy to pay tribute to his incredible talent. I am honoured to be sharing the stage with some of the many artists Peter has inspired over the years and who share my great respect for this remarkable musician. 'Then Play On'..." Here's some shots of David in action - he performed Oh Well Part Two (something which had NEVER been performed live previously in the history of Fleetwood Mac) on a Black Strat, and on a slide guitar, treated the audience to Albatross. For those who weren't able to attend the concert, there's some excellent news! On October 16th there's the Super Deluxe Edition Box Set, which consists of the entire show on 4LP, 2CD and a Blu-ray in a book. There's a limited edition "attendee version" that includes your choice of name in the concert documentary credits, a reproduction signed concert poster, and reproduction signed set list. You can order this now exclusively through Townsend Music's online store. A picture of the provisional artwork is shown above. They note this is subject to change, as not least, it was created before the show took place! If you can't wait that long, in selected cinemas in the UK, Ireland and Europe on June 2nd and 7th, you'll be able to watch the concert on the big screen. More details of this, and to book tickets, visit CinemaLive.com. |

Some more good news for some of our readers in the US and Canada - Roger Waters has added a second show to three locations on his upcoming 2020 North American tour, This Is Not A Drill. Tickets for the following new dates go on sale on Friday, February 28th at 10am local time, through the links shown next to the venue details below. The use of our direct links to buy your tickets gives a small but valuable contribution toward the ongoing BD site running costs, without costing you any extra, and is much appreciated! Roger's upcoming tour is, as normal, shrouded in secrecy, but as the tour posters reveal it is a first for Roger as it is being presented "in the round". This basically means that the stage is sat in the middle of the floor level of the venue, with the band and performance being aimed at those sat all around. This should also mean that most seats in the venue will have an excellent view! Should additional shows be announced elsewhere, we will of course let you know as soon as we can. As ever, we have set up dedicated pages for each of these shows, which you can get to either by the links above, or via the Roger Waters 2020 link shown to in the left-hand menu. |

Announced today is a march for Julian Assange, which is taking place tomorrow (22nd February, 2020) in London, and as part of the announcement, Roger Waters has noted that he will be performing during the event. The march for Assange goes from Australia House, Aldwych, to Parliament Square. They note that "Assange's full extradition trial begins the following Monday (24th February) and that the Trump administration is seeking to put Assange in jail for 175 years for publishing the Afghan and Iraq War Logs". They will assemble from 11:30am GMT, to leave Australia House at 12:30pm. Others participating will include Chrissie Hynde, Brian Eno, Vivienne Westwood and MIA. Obviously we don't know the nature of Roger's performance, but many of you will recall that he played Wish You Were Here in a similar, yet smaller, protest back in September 2019, again in London. UPDATE: Roger didn't perform any music during the event, but read from a prepared speech to the assembled crowd. Chrissie Hynde was (we understand) the only musician to perform any music. With thanks to Jon, we have a couple of pictures of Roger during the event: |
