Next Saturday evening, David Gilmour: Wider Horizons airs on the UK's BBC2 TV. The 72-minute programme promises to be a fascinating look at the man and musician, taking in the various elements of his life.

From the BBC website, the show is described as follows: 'After a break of nine years, David Gilmour steps back into the spotlight with a number one album and world tour. This film is an intimate portrait of one of the greatest guitarists and singers of all time, exploring his past and present. With unprecedented access, the film crew have captured and detailed key moments in David Gilmour's personal and professional life that have shaped him both as a person and a musician.'

The show airs on Saturday 14th November, at 9:45pm UK time, on BBC2 and BBC2 HD, which is viewable via digital terrestrial, the various digital platforms including Virgin Media and Sky, and online at the BBC website. Just published - Dutch language Pink Floyd book Print E-mail
Written by Matt

Pink Floyd Rockklassiekers bookPublished toward the end of October is a new book about Pink Floyd which will be of principal interest to our Dutch readership, and possibly to other, non-Dutch speaking (or rather, reading) Floyd fans. Pink Floyd Rockklassiekers is published by Verbum, and written by Wouter Bessels. It is part of a range of music books, focusing on individual artists, under the Rockklassiekers banner, which also includes books on Focus, Elvis Presley, Deep Purple and (coming this month) David Bowie.

The 224-page book is a complete history of the band, and their respective solo projects. My grasp of Dutch is pretty much non-existant, so I cannot attest to the quality of the narrative, but it was good to see that the story is very much up-to-date. The book includes the release of David Gilmour's recent album, Rattle That Lock, and the associated tour (illustrated within the pictures), as well as Roger Waters' Wall movie screenings which were held at the end of September in selected cinemas across the world. The book is well illustrated with a wide selection of pictures old and new, some of which will be new to most fans - which may be reason enough for some to add this to the Floydian bookshelves.

You can buy the book now in all good stores across The Netherlands, and it can be purchased online through suitable retailers (the ISBN: 9789074274777). There's also an official Facebook page devoted to the book.

New issue of Mojo '60s magazine includes Pink Floyd poster Print E-mail

Mojo '60s issue 4Issue 4 of the UK's Mojo Magazine's special series - Mojo '60s: Celebrating Rock's Decade of Cool - is now available in most good stores across the country. Of particular interest to fans of Pink Floyd is the pull-out, roughly A3 sized thick stock poster; one side features an advert for The Who, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, The Small Faces and The Mindbenders at the Roundhouse, and other side, Pink Floyd's Games For May concert poster, designed by Barry Zaid.

The 132-page magazine itself doesn't contain any specific Floyd content other than the poster, although fans of early Floyd will be interested in the band's peers at the time, and the publication is full of fascinating articles on these other performers. There's a 28-page Rolling Stone special, focused on Brian Jones, there's some nice unseen Beatles shots, an in-depth look at The Small Faces, at Otis Redding, and much more.

For those interested in those days, a time when music evolved at a rapid pace, there's plenty of interest. Individual copies of the magazine can be purchased online, worldwide, through this direct link.

Italian Floyd fanzine Heyou - new issue published Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Monday, 02 November 2015

Heyou issue 26Just published is the latest issue (number 26 - cover date October 2015) of the Pink Floyd fanzine "Heyou" run by our friends over at the Italian website of the same name.

The 52-page dual language magazine (in Italian and English), which is published every six months or so, catches up with things in the Floyd world this year. With so much happening what with Roger's various activities, and David's new album and tour, there has been plenty for the authors at Heyou to include.

As suggested at by the front cover, the magazine majors on Rattle That Lock, and reprints an interview David undertook with Rolling Stone about the new album. Elsewhere in its pages, there's a look at 1975's Floyd activities with a huge piece, covering around 40 pages, focusing on Wish You Were Here and the accompanying tour.

For once, there is virtually no news, other than a brief two-page spread, mainly consisting of recent magazine covers, and a one-liner mention of Roger Waters The Wall appearing in selected cinemas worldwide at the end of September. The final two pages devote a page each to Roger at the Newport Folk Festival in July, and David at the Brighton Centre at the start of September, giving the setlists and pictures from the shows.

More details of the Heyou fanzine can be found at www.heyou.it/fsubscrbd.html, where you can get individual copies, and subscription enquiries (four issues costing 30 euros within Europe, and 40 euros outside Europe) should go to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it - make sure you mention Brain Damage when you write!
