As I'm sure most of you are fully aware, the 2013 Roger Waters The Wall Live tour starts in three days time, on Thursday at the Gelredome, Arnhem in The Netherlands.
From feedback we've already had, a significant number of you are going to at least one of the shows on this upcoming tour, and that's where you can help us out! We like to be able to give the Floyd community as much information and opinion as possible for each show, so... if you are going, please let us know what you thought of the show, any pictures or video you might have, details of any local TV news reports and so on. We're also still after ticket scans for the following shows: 23rd July, Split / 7th August, Prague / 14th & 15th August, Oslo / 17th August, Gothenburg / 14th September, Wembley. If you have your ticket for any of these, we'd love to include a small picture or scan of it on the relevent showpage. We'll obscure any identifying detail on the ticket for your protection.
We will, of course, also be including contributions from our friend, Simon Wimpenny. Simon, of course, has been on a bit of a mission with the previous Wall shows, attending a staggering number of them and reporting back accordingly. With his familiarity with the show, he's in an excellent position to identify changes (or even issues) with the production, and we appreciate greatly his generosity at sharing his insights. Make sure you check out Simon's excellent blog at SimonWimpenny.blogspot.com where you'll find full details of all his travels, along with more pictures and videos. In the meantime, to give you a flavour, to the right there's a shot (click the thumbnail) from his latest blog entry of preparations at the Gelredome, where rehearsals start today ready for Thursday's show...

The ever-fascinating UK magazine Record Collector has an unmissable article in the new edition (issue 417, dated August 2013), which is due to arrive in UK stores on July 18th.
Highlight of the magazine is a six-page feature on pre-EMI Pink Floyd acetates, with help from BD contributor Herve Denoyelle, an interview with Nick Mason, a review of the three acetates which were discovered, an interview with producer Joe Boyd and a discography of Pink Floyd's UK rarities.
There's also a news item on Ron Geesin's upcoming book, The Flaming Cow including photos of Ron from 1971 and one of Ron and his son Dan Geesin constructing the cow which was to be incinerated for the cover of the book!
Elsewhere in the magazine are features on The Pretty Things, Brian May and Tangerine Dream.
Our thanks to Ron's son, Joe Geesin, for the information and cover shot. The magazine will appear in all good UK stores this coming week, will be available worldwide in
selected outlets shortly as an import, and will also be available online here.

You can now get the informative 1960s Cambridge Music Scene Booklet, created by those who were there, in a new, special printed edition. Brain Damage visitors will recall that in 2010 and 2011, we arranged special walking tours of Cambridge, highlighting the places and events of Syd Barrett's early life, run by Warren Dosanjh (manager of early Barrett band Those Without). Warren, along with Stephen Pyle, Dave Parker and Tony Middleton edit the I-Spy Syd In Cambridge website, and have (in conjunction with Mick Brown) compiled this new booklet which includes an in-depth study of the 1960s music scene in Cambridge, featuring many photos and running to some 72 pages. Earlier versions of this booklet proved a key component to these walking tours, and for those doing their own wander around the city.
The booklet has now been made available to buy as a hi-res printed version with a ring binding - particularly useful for those prowling around the different sites in Cambridge to find out more about the Floyd's roots. Nicely printed, on decent paper, it should hold up well to the rigours of rambling around the city. Recently updated, it includes added pages on the Dawnbreakers, the Hi-Fi's, the Prowlers, Clive Welham and Johnny Cullum, as well as photos and stories of other Cambridge musical artists including Those Without, Jokers Wild, and many more. You can download it from their site, and print it at home, but the new printed edition has far higher quality graphics and pictures.
The price is £15.00, which includes posting & packing in the UK only. Cheques should be made out to 'RCR2' and sent to 14 Greville Road, Cambridge CB1 3QL, accompanied by the name and address of the recipient. Warren Dosanjh advises that it would be helpful for orders to be collected by hand from the above address, if possible.
For countries outside the UK, please contact their site for a price inclusive of posting and packing here.
UPDATE, July 18th
Due to the many inquiries that they have had from outside the UK, they have now created an online system that will allow you to purchase your copy not only by cheque but now also by card using PayPal. They hope that this will simplify matters particularly for overseas purchasers. All you have to do is go to i-spysydincambridge.com/booklet. This will bring you to a new page which now allows you to pay by cheque or card and have your order sent by post. The link to read/download the booklet free is still there but of course this remains in low resolution.

There's been a couple of changes to one of the shows on the 2013 Roger Waters The Wall Live tour which starts next Thursday in The Netherlands.
The concert due to be held on 31st July at the OAKA Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece, has been moved to 1st August at Terra Vibe Park in Athens. This is a venue Roger has used in the past so will be familiar to him.
Ticket holders for this show may well have already been contacted by the ticketing organisation; any concerns or issues with the date/venue changes should be raised directly with them.
On the subject of Roger in Greece, the new issues (number 87) of that country's Sonik Magazine, which is available physically (in stores) and digitally (at Readpoint.com/Sonik.aspx). As you'll see from the picture to the left, Roger Waters is featured on the cover, and within the magazine there's a five page article on the "kids choir" which appeared on Another Brick In The Wall part 2.
The story behind the song is well known, with Nick Griffiths asking Alun Renshaw, music teacher of Islington Green School to choose some kids to sing a rock song. Renshaw chose 23 children, and told them to sing the controversial lyrics not as a choir would, but with a degree of venom and anger. For this, they each got a copy of the album, a copy of Another Brick in the Wall, and a ticket for an Earl's Court concert. The band's management also gave £1000 to the school for their music department. The magazine notes that "today the kids are 47 years old and they have a great story to tell to their children!" and this story is also revealed in the magazine.

Last year, the work of Gerald Scarfe, the world-famous British icon of social and political caricature - and collaborator with Pink Floyd for various 1970s projects most notably The Wall, and Roger's Pros and Cons - had its Czech premiere at the Egon Schiele Art Centrum in Český Krumlov.
The exhibition of more than 100 large-format drawings and watercolours
closed in October 2012, but some great news for our Czech friends: the
exhibition is finally opening at the beautiful (and now dry) Kampa Museum in Prague on July 24th 2013 and will run there until October 13th 2013. The Museum is situated on the eastern bank of the Kampa Island on the River Vltava, and the original opening of the exhibition on June 6th was cancelled due to the terrible flooding in the area.
Assuming the exhibition transfers in its entirety from its Krumlov staging, it should offer the following:
- political and social commentary and caricatures of British and
world politicians, the Royal Family, but also Czechoslovak politicians
from 1969
- cartoons of showbusiness personalities (Woody Allen, Mick Jagger, Madonna...)
- set and costume design for the English National Opera (Orpheus in the Underworld)
- album artwork for the Pink Floyd album The Wall - and the new
exhibition poster shows The Teacher (looking a little more like Scarfe
than we've seen previously) to hint at the contents of the show
- designs for the Walt Disney film Hercules (Scarfe was the first outside designer to work with the studio since Salvador Dalí!)
- creation of the title sequence for the Yes Minister series which appeared on BBC television
For more information on the exhibition, and the venue, visit www.museumkampa.cz. Our thanks to Vlado Marcinek for the continued help with information about this event.
