Ron Geesin's 'The Flaming Cow: The Making of Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother' has been getting very positive feedback from all aspects of the Floyd community. The book gives Ron's own perspective on the project, and it really is a fantastic read!
From Nick Mason's amusing foreword, through the story of how Ron got to
know the various members of the Floyd, to co-composing and recording the
piece variously known as Epic and The Amazing Pudding, before settling
on the title we all know and love, the book reveals all with a great wit
and honesty, along with masses of previously unseen photos from the recording sessions.
Check out our review here, which also includes ordering information. For those who prefer the convenience of reading on their Apple iThings, the eBook version is now available to purchase and download from the iTunes Bookstore. There are enhancements and extras over the print edition - principally, you can see Ron answering questions submitted by Brain Damage visitors about Atom Heart Mother, in a fascinating two-part video Q&A session.

- UPDATED June 2023 with latest version of the order form -
One
of the more popular items that have been promoted through Brain Damage
for many years now, is Nick Mason's excellent book, "Inside Out: A
Personal History Of Pink Floyd" signed with your choice of dedication,
by Nick himself.
Even though the offer has been running for quite a while, we've had confirmation today that Nick is still more than happy to take care of this for you! What better present for the Floyd nut in your life, or indeed, for yourself? You can now email the form over, and raise any questions via a specific email address. Gone is the old method of faxing over the forms, which we know some of you increasingly found a challenge. Below is the current version of the order forms (from June 2023) which is the only one that should be used; if you have any older versions, please disregard them.
The nice people at Nick's office organising it offer signed delivery, whichever country you live in. Sent from the UK, the cost of the book -
the UK's original, lavish hardback edition - is £50, plus shipping. This is priced at £16 (for the UK), £22 (Europe) and £33 (North America and the rest of the world), all of which require a signature on delivery. Now, those who have seen the UK's hardback edition (the edition that Nick is signing for you) will know it weighs a ton (figuratively speaking) - so wherever you live, it is an expensive item to send.
However, where else can you get Nick to put your chosen message for a
loved one (or yourself!) down in writing, and know that it is genuine
(unlike some of the items sold daily on eBay with obviously faked
signatures on)?
Please be aware that at certain times, Nick may be on holiday or
involved in various projects - such as his new band, Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets, touring - which obviously has quite an effect on the speed that books can be signed and sent - especially as Nick writes each dedication himself. No
"secretarial signatures" or pre-signed books here!
To order the book, simply download the following form:
and complete your details, emailing the form through to the address given at the bottom.
Full delivery and payment details are included on the form. Please order very
early to ensure delivery for specific events (such as birthdays,
weddings, and other celebrations).
Our thanks to Nick and his team for continuing to make this possible.

Last November 8th, as a late addition to the bill, Roger Waters performed with a band comprised of military veterans at the 6th annual Bob Woodruff Foundation Stand Up for Heroes event at the Beacon Theatre in New York.
The bill for this year's event has just been announced, and
amongst the artists confirmed for the 7th annual evening of comedy and music are the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Bruce Springsteen and Roger Waters, who is making his return to New York for the show. This time, it is being held at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, on November 6th, 2013. Tickets for the event, which start at $250 and run up to (an eye-watering) $5000, are now on sale through this official link. The show starts at 8pm.
Since its inception, the event has raised more than $16 million to support wounded warriors and their families. It brings together leaders from military, business, entertainment, government, and philanthropy to raise funds to help post-911 injured service members and their families thrive long after they return to the home front.
Stand Up for Heroes marks the sacrifice of returning service members, veterans and their families by offering support in the effort to heal the physical and psychological wounds of war.
Last year's event was webcast, and you can still view it on demand through Youtube:

Those in the Canadian city of Vancouver have an exhibition coming up that might be of interest.
An artist - Timothy Clayton - is staging an art show next month commemorating the 40th anniversary of Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon. Every song from the album is portrayed/interpreted on canvas individually, in an abstract style. Patrons will be encouraged to bring music devices such as iPods and headphones to listen to the album as they view the art works. Factoids and stories will accompany each piece as the viewer proceeds around
the gallery.
The exhibition runs from October 10th – 23rd, 2013, at the Havana Art Gallery/Restaurant, 1212 Commercial Dr. Vancouver.

The annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is a remarkable homage to the dawn of driving that boasts huge appeal, attracting entrants from around the globe, all eager to participate in what is the world's longest running and greatest motoring celebration. It's a unique event always staged on the first Sunday in November (so, this year on November 3rd) that catches the imagination of royalty and personalities from the world of television, stage, music and sport. For everyone involved, though, it's a rare opportunity to experience a ride in one of these extraordinary pre-1905 automobiles on the famous 60-mile run from Hyde Park in central London to the seafront in the Sussex resort of Brighton.
Nick Mason is one famous face who has become a Veteran Car Run regular. Indeed, he is such a strong devotee that he acquired his very own pre-1905 veteran car - a 5-litre 1901 Panhard - specifically to partake in the amazing showcase that features around 500 vehicles from motoring's very earliest days.
"It sounds bizarre getting up at the crack of dawn on what's usually a really rather cold November morning but it's great to run these old cars. It's a real thrill to get these old machines working and to get them down to Brighton.
