Two Storm Thorgerson signed Syd Barrett prints being auctioned Print E-mail
Written by Matt

Storm Thorgerson signed Syd Barrett print auctionsThis afternoon, we've put a couple of very special items up on eBay which we hope will be of great interest to Pink Floyd, and more specifically, Syd Barrett fans. Bidding started today at 4.00pm (UK); the auctions run for seven days.

In the two special auctions, we have authentic, and personally signed, Storm Thorgerson fine art prints, which are being sold by Syd Barrett's sister Rosemary Breen through us (with the approval of OneFifteen, the management team who look after Syd's affairs) with all the money raised being used by Rosemary for charitable causes.

Both are signed to Rosemary by the late Storm, and both are pieces of artwork he created in tribute to Syd. The first, for 2010's "An Introduction to Syd Barrett", was created by Storm for the following reasons. "Firstly, to be vivid and colourful to reflect Syd's creative imagination. Secondly, to be varied and diverse, which is why there are illustrations to all his songs, and thirdly to hint at the darker, sadder side of Syd's life, hence the mirror which is not a mirror, the feather trees of autumn, and the escaping swan, breaking free from the confines of upbringing and education".

The second fine art print is officially known as Tribute to Syd Barrett, but also known as 'S' for Syd, and initially (as Storm has written in pencil under the image), Green Doors. It was created by Storm for The City Wakes, a tribute event for his late friend Syd that was held in Cambridge 2008.

Both are handsigned by Storm and he has hand-numbered it to Rosemary as edition 1 of 1. There are no others in this edition for each print, making them very special.

An item such as this would grace any Syd Barrett/Pink Floyd fan's collections, as well as benefitting some great causes. With Storm sadly no longer with us, this now sold-out, high quality print will never again be available signed by the man himself, and with it having been gifted to Syd's sister, it makes it even more special. It would also be a wonderful Christmas present for the Floyd fan in your life. Get your bids in now!

New Andy Jackson album: video and ordering details Print E-mail

Andy JacksonIn August, we revealed the upcoming release of Signal To Noise, the new studio album by twice Grammy nominated Pink Floyd engineer Andy Jackson [left]. The album, which is being released as both a single CD edition and a two-disc digipack deluxe limited edition with a 5.1 surround mix on DVD, appears on November 3rd (or 10th, depending on where you are in the world), 2014.

Andy's relationship with Pink Floyd began on the film soundtrack of The Wall, a relationship that continues to this day, resulting in two Grammy nominations for his work and Mix magazine's award for best live sound engineer for the Division Bell tour. He has also worked on solo albums from Roger Waters and David Gilmour, and is also engineer and a co-producer of the soon-to-be-released Pink Floyd album, The Endless River.

Shortly after breaking the news, we told you about a special opportunity to assist Andy, and the record company, Esoteric, by creating a video for them to go along with the song "The Boy in the Forest". Floyd fan Mark Duffy was the eventual winner, and his video can be seen below. Well done, Mark! It complements the music well. For more information on Andy and his music, visit AndyJacksonMusic.com which has more video content, and an album sampler.

We've been lucky enough to have a sneak preview of the whole album, and we're thoroughly enjoying it. It's a very absorbing listen, and unsurprisingly - bearing in mind Andy's pedigree (and normal employers) - it feels a very Floydian album, both in terms of production and music, in places even bringing to mind Richard Wright's Broken China amongst other things. "The Boy In The Forest", below, should give a flavour of what to expect. You can order it through the following direct links, all resulting in a small but vital contribution toward our site running costs:

Pink Floyd feature in major French magazines this week Print E-mail

Pink Floyd featuring in Rock&Folk, and Rolling Stone - France, October 2014Just published in France, available from all news kiosks and certain stores, are the new issues of two of the country's major music magazines. As expected, both are covering the release of Pink Floyd's upcoming album, The Endless River, in suitable style.

The French edition of Rolling Stone magazine, dated October 16th, 2014, includes an enthusiastic review of the album, along with a few pages looking at Pink Floyd's 25 best songs. In all, a really interesting 13 pages about the band.

The well respected Rock&Folk magazine, with a November 2014 cover date, only gives 6 pages to Pink Floyd, which is briefer than we expected from a publication such as this, which has always provided interesting coverage of the band over the years. They give a really good review of the album and have an interview with Phil Manzanera. It even reveals that Dick Parry wasn't on the album because he had to have some dental surgery at the time of the recording.

Our thanks to Julien Richard for his invaluable help with this story (and the picture, too). You can purchase the magazines worldwide from various online sources, including journaux.fr of which direct links to the magazines in question can be found above.

Prog issue 50: Pink Floyd The Endless River specialTo coincide with the publication of the new issue - their 50th - of Prog Magazine tomorrow (Wednesday October 15th), which features extensive coverage of Pink Floyd, they will be celebrating the band on their radio station throughout the day. Some decent prizes will be on offer during the coverage too.

They have asked Prog readers to vote for their favourite Pink Floyd songs, and they'll be counting down the Top 10 tomorrow, all day on TeamRock Radio. Starting at 8am and running throughout the day until 5.30pm, you can hear the songs that their readership decided were their favourite Floyd tunes.

There'll be the chance to win one of five copies of the 2DVD set The Pink Floyd & Syd Barrett Story, and the five lucky people will then go into a special draw where one lucky listener will win a pair of Kef Q300 speakers (worth £450).

You can tune in to TeamRock Radio by clicking the radio player at the bottom of their website.

In the meantime, Prog have sent us the eyecatching, proper artwork for the magazine cover. The previously shown cover is for the cardboard outer, rather than the magazine itself. The artwork has a three page ad for the new Floyd album on the other side. You can purchase the magazine, either single issues or as a subscription, internationally through this direct link. Prog is also available on iPad, Google Play, Kindle and Nook.

The Pink Floyd Exhibition - Their Mortal RemainsThis afternoon, an official announcement has been made about the status of The Pink Floyd Exhibition - Their Mortal Remains, which was due to open last month. As many of you will be aware, the opening was postponed on August 11th due to "production delays" and we've been waiting on an update on the event. Here's the text of the announcement:

"Milan, October 13th, 2014 – Evolve Devolve, the Italian promoters of 'The Pink Floyd Exhibition - Their Mortal Remains', have announced today that the exhibition, due to take place from September 19th in Milan, has now been cancelled because the necessary conditions have not occurred in order to make it happen within the time frame available at the Fabbrica del Vapore. (These conditions have nothing to do with Milan's Municipality).

"Ticket holders for the exhibition should seek refunds from their point of purchase according to the procedures already communicated."

Obviously should there be any further developments with the exhibition we shall let you know.
