Some great news for all of you who were hoping to see David Gilmour's upcoming concert in Oberhausen, Germany, on September 19th, 2015, which is part of his ten date - and sold out - tour, to coincide with the release of his new album (which is as yet untitled, and no firm date of release is available at the moment). Due to finalising of the production design, a limited number of seats have just been made available for the Oberhausen show, via this link to Eventim.de. Tickets will be in the top price bracket of €100 (Euros) and the third price bracket of €75 (Euros), and are subject to booking fees.
There will be a limit of 2 tickets per person/purchase. As with other venues, and in an effort to cut down on ticket touting (the selling of tickets for vast profit) the name of the purchaser will be printed on both tickets, so the purchaser will HAVE to attend the show. Please note: tickets are not transferable, returnable or refundable under any circumstances. Terms and conditions apply.
Sales will be open to the public from 10am on Friday morning (April 24th), so please place your order now if you want to attend this show.
This afternoon the Roger Waters The Wall film website posted a short but sweet teaser video which shows off some of the footage which will be seen in the upcoming screenings. The film will be in cinemas on September 29th, with tickets going on sale on June 19th (more details through this link) and the trailer is presented in various high definition choices, including a very nice 4k (ultraHD) version.
Prepare a space on your bookshelves: The Complete Pink Floyd is coming on October 8th 2015. Many of you will know the superb book, Echoes. Written by the creator and founder of Brain Damage Magazine (the forerunner of this website) Glenn Povey, it has, since its publication in 2006, been a truly essential guide to the life and times of Pink Floyd, listing (at the time) every known concert, every appearance, every song, every turn and twist in the amazing story of one of the world's most famous bands.
Since then, Glenn has been tirelessly carrying on his research, uncovering concerts and appearances which had previously been lost in the mists of time. He has also had the great privilege of being allowed access to all of the band's Abbey Road recording notes (the only person to do so).
This complete reboot of Echoes, under the new title The Complete Pink Floyd, is illustrated with all-new material, including hundreds of photographs and rare memorabilia. Every solo concert has been updated for Waters and Gilmour, and details of the band's many re-released albums have been added, including never-before-published research into their earliest recordings from 1965. The original Echoes was a great book but this upgrade should be utterly essential to any serious Pink Floyd fan.
You can pre-order the book now through these direct links:
Amazon UK, Amazon.com, Amazon Canada, Amazon France, Amazon Germany, Amazon Spain and Amazon Italy. Don't forget, these will all qualify for their pre-order price
guarantee, ensuring you pay (automatically) the lowest price they have
the item on offer for between your order, and the release date. Using
our Amazon links also helps us hugely with ongoing site running costs and we really appreciate it!
This new, fifth edition incorporates an additional 32 pages of material from campaigns, releases and re-issues created since 2007, when the previous edition appeared. Before his sad passing, Storm
revisited the work he created for these later works and albums and offered insights into the work that went into the creation of this legendary album art. Designers who worked with Storm have also contributed to this new
edition of Mind Over Matter. Amongst the new material is artwork from
the Oh By The Way box set, the rather wonderful Atom Heart Mother 40th
Anniversary 'Wire Cow' sculpture, the Why Pink Floyd? Campaign and the
Dark Side Of The Moon 40th Anniversary images and stickers.
For those who haven't seen previous editions, the book features the
images from Pink Floyd's album sleeves and promotional material designed
for the group. It features almost all Pink Floyd's iconic album covers,
posters, singles bags, a selection of band photos, booklet pages and
rough artwork that developed into iconic designs. As you'll see from our
review (which has a focus on the changes and additions from the
previous edition), the book is thoroughly
recommended!
At the foot of the review, we also gave the opportunity to win one of three copies. We've gone through the huge number of entries, most of which correctly answered our three questions, and the following winners were picked out the BD "hat": Kaitlynn Defelice, Los Angeles, California; Mike Greene, Wallingford, UK; Bob Follen, Todmorden, UK. Congratulations to these three, and better luck next time to everyone else who participated...
A reminder - tomorrow is 2015 Record Store Day which offers limited run pressings, available for one day only (April 18th, 2015) through independent record
stores, and includes a single featuring Syd Barrett.
Pressed up on a 7" gold, white, red and black mixed vinyl single as a
Rhino Records RSD exclusive is Dark Globe - on one side performed by
Syd, on the other, REM's excellent cover version. It is part of Rhino's
Side By Side 7" series, with two artists performing the same song.
There are two different tranches of releases - those in the US, and
those in the UK. This Syd/REM single is being released as part of the US
releases, AND also in the UK.
As with all Record Store Day releases, it will not be available online (other than inevitably on eBay
from the morning of April 18th) but while stocks last in participating
independent record stores. Be prepared to get to your local store prior
to opening, and be ready to queue!
There are a lot of independent stores that participate in Record Store
Day. Not all of them will choose to participate in all promotions, or
carry all releases. Just because a store is listed on the RSD website
does NOT mean it will have the goodie or record you're looking for. That
said, find a store near you and check with them directly. They won't
hold an item aside for you, but at least you'll know if it will be worth
the trip!
