Syd Barrett: Unforgettable Diamond exhibition in Italy

Next weekend, September 17th and 18th, a two-day exhibition celebrating founder member of Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett, takes place in Italy.

Staged by the Floyd webzine Us And Them, Syd Barrett: Unforgettable Diamond is being held at Teatro Comunale, Viale della Repubblica, in Alessandria. Their exhibition will remember the life and work of Barrett and will tell his story with the words of his friends, along with the thoughts of those for whom Barrett made an impression through his music or art.

Included during the event will be an exhibition of records and memorabilia, video shows and live performances. Doors open to the exhibition at 3:30pm on the first day, and at 5pm the concert performances start, with Lodovico Ellena (ex-Effervescent Elephants) and La Forma Delle Nuvole (with Dario Antonetti founder of The Vegetable Man Project) playing a selection of Syd’s songs.

The second day sees the doors to the exhibition open at 10am; at 5pm a symposium dedicated to Syd begins, with Luciano Cassulo, Giulia Di Nardo-Spies, Stefano Girolami (member of the Lunatics – Pink Floyd Collectors Club), Nino Gatti (another Lunatic, presenting his book "Syd Barrett – Alle Soglie Dell'Alba").

Roger Waters - Focus Camp, September 2016

Roger Waters will be at Mexico City's National Cinematheque on 30th September to present the new documentary "The Occupation of the American Mind: Israel's Public Relations War in the United States", which is narrated by him.

Taking advantage of his visit to Mexico City giving two concerts at the Foro Sol on 28th and 29th September, prior to the pair of shows in California for the Desert Trip event, the musician will be taking the opportunity to talk about this documentary that criticises the US role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The screening and presentation by Roger will take place at 8pm as part of the first edition of Focus Camp, a forum for audiovisual distribution. For more information, visit micgenero.com.

Just posted is a newly created video celebrating the lovely, pastoral Roger Waters track Grantchester Meadows, coupled with a Pink Floyd performance of the track which appeared on BBC radio, on 12th May 1969.

The soundtrack of the video, below, features acoustic guitars and vocals from Roger Waters and David Gilmour, plus additional piano from Richard Wright and taped songbirds, evoking a summer’s day in Grantchester, a small village close to Cambridge, England. The performance footage is from the KQED TV broadcast in San Francisco, 1970. The full recording of the KQED show is on the upcoming Pink Floyd: The Early Years 1965-1972 box set, as is the BBC radio session. Full details of the 27-disc box set can be seen here.

Pete Townshend's Deep End - Face The Face DVD and CDA month ago today, we told you that Eagle Rock Entertainment are releasing the live concert film Face The Face by Pete Townshend's Deep End as a DVD and CD set this month - on September 16th 2016 to be exact. This is the first official release of the band's third and final full length concert, which was captured by the German TV series Rockpalast at MIDEM in Cannes on January 29th 1986. We now have full ordering links for you, which we know some of you have been waiting for.

The recording features David Gilmour on lead guitar throughout and the set includes a mix of Townshend and Who classics such as Face The Face, Secondhand Love, Rough Boys, Give Blood, Won't Get Fooled Again, Behind Blue Eyes, Pinball Wizard and more.

As on the existing Deep End in Brixton live disc, Gilmour is included performing Blue Light from his 1984 album, About Face.

Around of the time of the Deep End shows, Townshend had this to say about Gilmour: "Among players — particularly among British players — he's incredibly highly rated — adored, I'd say. And he has a way of putting incredible feeling into everything that he does. I suppose technically, he's very good. But that’s not the important thing. The important thing is the way that he plays."

Here are the ordering links - using these will give a small but vital contribution to the running costs of Brain Damage, without costing you a penny/cent extra, and we really appreciate it!
