COMMENTS

Due to exceptional demand, for what is looking like an exception concert, a second weekend has been added for the Desert Trip festival being held in October at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California (the site of the annual Coachella Festival). The Desert Trip event features a stellar line-up over three days:

  • Friday: The Rolling Stones - Bob Dylan and his Band
  • Saturday: Paul McCartney - Neil Young and Promise of the Real
  • Sunday: Roger Waters - The Who

Listed above are what are now confirmed as the headliners, followed by the "support act" - so, in Roger's case, The Who will be performing earlier in the evening to get the crowd going.

Tickets went on sale Monday, May 9th for the initially announced weekend of October 7th, 8th and 9th, 2016, but due to exceptional demand - with all types of tickets, from general admission, standing at the rear of the venue, through to various VIP/grandstand tickets/pit tickets, sold out - the following weekend, October 14th, 15th and 16th, 2016, has been added, with the same performers appearing on the same days of the week.

Unfortunately, for any of you keen to make these new dates, those also have sold out pretty much instantly. There are a number of tickets to be found on secondary ticketing markets which is a real shame, as clearly these have been bought up by scalpers/touts purely to make a profit, rather than allow the fans to get tickets for the advertised prices.

We hope that there will be filming of these shows to make them available at some point for all of us who will be missing out on a great event, but as yet, have no information on anything like this happening. Should this change, we will let you all know via these pages (we've already had a number of people ask if there will be a DVD/Blu-ray release, or a TV broadcast).

Our thanks to Gilles Jalbert, who has bought tickets to the event (the second weekend); those who bought tickets will be receiving them in August, but in the meantime, they've sent a postcard to purchasers which is a really nice touch. Gilles has very kindly shared scans of his postcard which you can see here.

Following the postcard, the organisers have also sent out an incredible box of goodies to help get impending attendees even more fired up for the event, and Gilles has also very kindly shared the contents with you all... Over to Gilles:

"I have scanned the passes, which are not actually admittance tickets. The back of the passes have 2 images on them which can be seen when tipping them from side to side. There are wristbands that need to be worn and not removed for the entirety of the weekend. These are the actual (electronic) passes that need to be activated.

"I have also included photos of the package that came. There is a plethora of items. Neck straps for the afore mentioned 'Passes', wristbands, instructions, a 34 page 'Desert Trip 2016 Welcome Guide', and a 3D Viewfinder and 2 viewfinder reels. Reel one is of all the artists, and reel 2 is of the venue and surrounding area."

WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD!

Do not read on if you don't want surprises to be spoilt, regarding what the band played.

The second and final appearance from Roger and his band to close off the very successful Desert Trip long weekend, featuring a stellar selection of bands. Most definitely a "one-off" (if indeed you can consider that when they stage the event twice across consecutive long weekends), it gave fans a chance of seeing some true greats, without any unconvincing or up- and-coming support acts to endure.

Indeed, for Roger, he had The Who as a warm-up act...how many people can say that these days? Maybe half a century ago when The Who were making their rise to stardom, or as part of a mega-bill charity show, but certainly not something that would tend to normally happen these days.

The set list above is as shown on the Setlist.fm website, and the set was unchanged from the previous weekend.

If you went to this show, please let us know what you thought of it.
