WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD!
Do not read on if you don't want surprises to be spoilt, regarding what the band played, and what happened as the night unfolded!
Night fourteen of the tour, and the second of three shows at the legendary Madison Square Garden - the production moves on to Buffalo, NY for a show there on Friday night, and the NYC fans will have to wait a month for the third of the MSG concerts!
Initial reports are that the band are getting ever stronger. As with last night, members of the Boys' Club of New York joined the band onstage for Another Brick. Oh, and still no guest appearance by David Gilmour, despite all the rumours that have been flying around. Having said that, if the rumours are to be believed, clearly David is taking a touring holiday in the US at the moment which just happens to be hitting the same cities as Roger!
Amongst the celebrities at the concert was the actor, Jim Carrey, who tweeted the following during the morning after the show: "Saw Roger Waters tonight at Madison Square Gardens doing the wall. "Mother will she tear your little boy apart?!" brilliant forever! ~8^o"
Finally, following on from the accusations that Roger is anti-Semitic (see the news section), the video sequence for this stop on the tour showed some tweaked graphics during Goodbye Blue Sky. In the new version, rather than dollar signs, Mercedes symbols followed the Stars of David falling from the plane... We presume that this version of the sequence will be used from now on.
If you went to this show, let us know what you thought of the event, and if anything interesting or different happened if you've been to previous shows and can compare!
CONCERT REVIEW and PICTURES by BD CONTRIBUTOR, Jason Krehel
I was not old enough when The Wall came out to go to the live shows. My father got me into Pink Floyd and The Wall album got me through some very rough times. Through the years I became obsessed with the live shows that were done at Nassau Coliseum in the early 80's and other venues. I purchased BAD copy after BAD copy of these shows in hopes of finding that holy grail clear version that I never found. Listened to people that were lucky enough to see some of those shows and lived vicariously through them.
I just got home from the Wall concert at MSG and I have to say that I cried like a little girl with a skinned knee lol. It was in a word INCREDIBLE!!! I was VERY VERY skeptical about the guitar work. I am a HUGE Gilmour fan. But I have to say that Snowy White and G.E. Smith as well as Dave Kilminster really played ALL the solo's with a respect rarely given to Gilmour. Waters usually has VERY bad choices when it comes to guitar players to play Gilmour's parts but these guys NAILED IT!!
This is something EVERY FLOYD FAN SHOULD SEE!!! The visuals were amazing as well. Roger Waters really put a lot of LOVE into this show, you can feel it and see it!!
CONCERT REVIEW by BD CONTRIBUTOR, Simon Wimpenny
The second show was a lot better than the first, the projections were spot on, the music was better(there were still a couple of mistakes though) and I was 3rd row right block on the aisle for the first half. For the second half Kami and I went and sat stage right right next to the wall and about 4 rows back from the stage. The crew put a plastic line of tape down the side by these seats as it's where the wall falls down and covers the seats. There were 6 seats on our row and then the line of tape, Kami was sat right next to the tape and I was in the seat next to her. Just before this start of the second half they moved the tape out two more seats which left 4 seats on our row and again kami was right up next to the tape.
Just before the second half started a couple of people sat in front of us, one was Rogers girlfriend and the other was the actor Jim Carrey! I hadn't recognised him till Kami pointed him out, it was fun to see him rocking out and having fun and taking videos on his iphone!
Seats at the side and front are a great place to see all the equipment rising up from the stage during the second half and the band walking on and off stage:
So now comes the time for the wall to come down! I said to Kami were a bit too close for comfort for me so we moved over to the left two seats. I love when they start moving the wall and making it like ripple all the way across if it gets a good ripple going then you know its gonna to be a great “wall fall” tonight was the best I've seen, so much that two bricks where it started rippling were teetering on and off the wall! as you can see in the video below. As you can also see had Kami and I not moved over two seats kami would have been hit straight on the head by the falling bricks!! I know Jens would pay to have that happen to him but with Kami and her back I'm not sure she would have been too pleased!!
It was the best best “wall fall” I've seen, not only because of where our seats were but just the bricks balancing on and off the top and the whole tumble down was fantastic.
