After finishing the US and Canadian leg of Roger's tour of The Wall, the production stays in Mexico City for this concert, the second here and the penultimate show of the tour, which starts an hour earlier at 7pm.

Do not read on if you don't want surprises to be spoilt, regarding what the band played, and what happened as the night unfolded!

Night fifty-five of the tour, and the penultimate show of the 2010 schedule. If you went to this show, please let us know what you thought of the event, and if anything interesting or different happened if you've been to previous shows and can compare. However, as you'll see from Fernando's review below, there was an additional surprise for the Mexican audience at the very end of the concert...

I'm not getting into details, or review the show song by song because it's pointless to repeat just how great, amazing, impressive and epic the whole concert is, as it's been said by so many others before; the acoustic troubles of the Palacio de los Deportes which normally see a horrible amount of echo were bravely defeated by the sound engineers (hats off to them).

Apart from that, I'd like to share a very personal experience of what happened on today's show. My wife and I made a long trip to get to the venue in time, as some other friends of ours didn't make it until Mother so it was kind of sad; our very good friend Itzel was celebrating her birthday that day and what happened after the wall came down was a complete shock for everyone.

Roger Waters spoke a few words and sentences in Spanish during the concert which were greeted loudly by the audience, but then he asked if someone was celebrating their birthday, and then one of the most unexpected things occurred. The entire band starts playing the chords of Another Brick pt. 2 with the Spanish words of the very popular "Las Mañanitas" song, a mexican birthday song, which caused a huge laugh and applause since we didn't expect in a million years that Roger himself would like that joke made by somebody in Mexico that has been around on Youtube for a while. I really don't know the reason why he did this, but anyway it is unique, and our friend Itzel was so very happy and took it as the most beautiful gift she could ever have. Greetings to her, again: Feliz Cumpleas Carnaval!

The three nights were absolutely perfect performances by one of the greatest musicians in the last century. The sound, the special effects, the lights, the videos, the “NO MANCHES!” enormous screen-wall!!!

We can only say THANKS to Roger for this experience.

I cried every night with the very touching images of the children's surprise when they saw their daddies were brought back home.

I was astonished at what is certainly the best, the most surprising and fantastic show ever.

I entered the venue with child amusement and I left the same way.

Before the start of the show the fans were taking pictures at themselves with the iconic wall behind them, and played a beautiful part of the scenery when they followed the beat of the band in “Waiting for the worms” with their lighters. At the end of the first concert Roger gratefully expressed thanks to the audience for that. The band saw the same lighter “fiesta” the next two nights and, as an incredible bonus, they played “Another brick in the wall” using the lyrics of “Las mañanitas”, our traditional happy birthday song. That detail from Roger and the band was touching and funny.

Some rock stars have said that Mexico's audience is the loudest and even the best in the world. When that fantastic people attends a superb concert like this, the vibe in there tears down any wall (no matter how high, large or wide)! I thought that watching “The dark side” live in 2007 was the finest point in my personal history. Dear Roger, you changed that and I'm sure I wasn't the only one! THANKS for visiting us again!

Well, I don’t have the perfect words to describe how great and majestic were these 3 concerts in Mexico but I will comment some important points:

Since 1999 I started going to concerts and I have seen almost all the major shows of all groups. But I think The Wall is one of the most impressive and ambitious shows of all time, even better than groups such as Paul McCartney and U2.

The wall is the largest video screen I have ever seen, was like a huge movie theater with a perfectly sharp image.

About the audio, is an important point because the concert was at the Palacio de los Deportes (Sports Palace), which is an arena with very bad acoustics for concerts. However, Roger's audio engineers managed to make the place sound great, with two large towers in the center and various quadraphonic speakers, shaped like a flower on the top of the venue which rang out with stunning effect, with sounds of airplanes, helicopters, the school master, knocks on a door, etc.

Besides, something that we only can see with Roger Waters is the flying pig, the plane that crashed against the wall, the puppets, which shows the great ability of Roger to rock the audience.

In particular, I cried in many songs, especially during “Vera” and “Bring The Boys Back Home”, because it uses very moving images of war, poverty and children who reunite with their parents.

The set list was obviously the same, just as spectacular as in other cities. However, some points that stood out from the concerts in Mexico were:

* At the end of "Another Brick in the Wall 2" Roger waved to the crowd, in Spanish saying “Viva Mexico Cabrones” that is a popular Mexican victory phrase. I don't know what would be the translation in English, maybe: “Viva Mexico Bastards” or “Viva Mexico assholes”.

* During the song "Mother", on the part of the lyrics that say "Mother should I trust the government?” in the wall appeared in English the phrase "no fucking way" and on the other side of the wall appeared a Spanish translation that said "NI MADRES WEY" which caused a standing ovation and all the people got crazy because Mexico is experiencing a particularly difficult time in which our government has become our worst enemy.

* During the song "Waiting For The Worms" people did a special effect that is only done here in Mexico, people began to turn on and off their lighters to the beat of the song, something that surprised and excited Roger. After the concert (November 18th), Roger thanked the public for that effect, and recalled with emotion and made comments on his first visit to Mexico in 2002 when people did the same during the song "The Flickering Flame" and commented that he hasn't seen that special effect in any other city in the world.

* At the end of the second and third concert (December 19th and 20th), the band played a special theme "Another Brick in the Wall 2" with the Spanish lyrics of the song "Las Mañanitas" that is a birthday song in Mexico. Personally I had heard this song in a clowns TV show in Mexico "The chicharines circus" as a joke and it was really a surprise that Roger played it. People laughed at first and then started clapping and singing. A great final.

* At the end of the third concert (December 21st), Roger said in his own words he'd had a great time in Mexico and promised to return.

Return?? That sounds great! He didn't say if we would come back with "The Wall" or with another world tour but it would be great to had a chance to attend another world tour in the future.

I am very happy and fortunate to be present at the three concerts but on the other hand I feel sad because I know I will never see a show so great and complete unless Roger returns with another major world tour.

Just wanted to share these with all you floydian fans out there; I had 4th row seat right in the middle, on the second date in Mexico, December 19th 2010.

We took a road trip from San Salvador, Central America to Mexico City, more than 1000 miles. We were four guys travelling, the bus from Tapachula to DF got busted with 54 kilos of coke, we were surrounded by heavy armed soldiers for 6 hours.

After a 10 hour delay, we finally got to Mexico city near midnight on Saturday. On Sunday 19th, at 7:30 pm we saw the greatest sonic and visual experience of a lifetime. Mexico City, love at first feel.

All I can say is, Roger, thanks for the ride!!
