Our friend George Kargiolakis has
been in contact regarding this show. It is being promoted by Did Music,
and in their press release (translated by George), they say:
The
GROUPE F company will be responsible for the production of the visual
and sound effects of Roger Waters world tour.
Groupe F is a company
responsible for the starting and closing ceremonies of Athens Olympic
Games. The press release of the company presents Groupe F, which is a
company responsible for the effects during the opening and closing
ceremonies of Athens Olympic Games, the new millenium celebrations at
Eiffel Tower in Paris etc.
One of the effects will be the burning sun,
45 metres high, hanging from the sky, which will create temporary light
compositions, leaving a final standing footprint in the dark of the
night. The scale when comparing to the people will be natural.

COMMENTS
Roger's tour has now reached
Greece, playing at Terra Vibe Park near Athens. Ecstatic fans welcomed
him and his band to a country where there are many Floyd fans, but
sadly few opportunities to see their heroes.
Turkey is the next destination on the tour, playing the capital city of Istanbul...
Our thanks to panastros31 for all the great photos on this page.
SHOW REVIEW

Sunday, June 18, 2006, 7:20 pm.
The traffic jam in the Athens - Lamia national road near Terra Vibe
(Malakassa, Attica) is more than 3 km long, and cars still arrive...
More than one hour to reach a potential parking place, being
---fortunately enough--- only(!!!) another 3 km from the other side of
the entrance, a distance that has to be walked at a swift pace in order
to be on time for the show... Finally, we made it at 9:05 pm, just on
the applause following "In The Flesh"!
And yet, it was worth every
single second of effort, to be among the audience of a completely
fascinating performance by a real artist, managing to give the
quintessence of his lyrics and music in a way so well beyond things
mundane and trivial; he seemed to communicate with the people in a
soul-to-soul level!
The overall show was as
impressive as it can be, with all the visual and sound effects that
have become standard for a Roger Waters and his Band (Flickering
Flame?) performance. All the extremely gifted musicians and the
golden-throated female singer trio were absolutely devoted to their
act, giving their best selves to serve this incredible combination of
music and lyrics, managing to emphasize their significance and real
value.
Some highlights of a dreamy performance:
- Real shivering go up and down the spine of die-hard Floydians at the half-whispered singing during "Set The Controls..."
- Overwhelming reactions of the audience as Syd appeared on screen
during "Shine On...", while Roger seemed to feel deep in his heart each
word he was singing
- A sequence of heart-felt interpretations of the non - Pink Floyd
songs by Roger, culminating on a really moving "Leaving Beirut". Bet
that during this song, tears were not to be excluded from the eyes of
some part of the audience!
- A whole sonic herd of sheep coming from all around in the start of the eponymous song
- Dark Side of the Moon; just that! Heavenly vocals on "The Great
Gig...", while Syd is coming back in one's mind once again as flying
brains and a whole lot of (unidentified?) pills overflow the screen
- Everybody dancing at "Another Brick... - Pt.2". This seems to be
the most popular song among the audience, in the age range from 9 to 99
years!!!
- The two huge natural gas torches, by each side of the stage,
spitting more than 20 m high flames towards the sky and warming people
as far as 40 m away!
- The firework blast at the very end of the show.
Having also attended the (Rogerless) Pink Floyd gig in Athens (Olympic
Stadium), back on 31 May 1989, let me paraphrase a little Roger's
lyrics: "This band was just fantastic / That was really what we think /
Oh, by the way, HE was Pink (... Floyd)!"
At the end of the encore, he
said: "Ime poly haroumenos pou ime edho..." (Greek, meaning "I am very
glad to be here"). For granted Rog, we all were too!

UNBELIEVABLE!
I just can’t believe what
happened last night! It was a dream? It was a fantasy? Was it real?
It’s 12 am and I didn’t notice that the show was gone! I just wanted
more! I NEED more! It was 9 pm and HE came in front of us. There HE
stood, ready to take us away, and far beyond…
He just say “etimi?” The show
took place in earth and the crowd is in 7 skies! Greatest moments… mmm,
Set the controls… Us and them… Comfortably numb … Am I crying? Hope to
see HIM again and again … On a show, because I’m sure I’m going to find
him in his place at Pilio!

The photos say everything... I
feel like I was born just yesterday...Fantastic event, Overwhelming
Show, Breath-taking & Flawless Performance, Life-Changing
Experience...
Athens is still shining....
Roger's eyes were sparkling as they did many years ago when he and the
rest of the Floydz were seeking for inspiration, experimenting
throughout the Greek islands... 30.000 people could not stop singing
and dancing for almost three hours.
His first - and hopefully not
last - visit to Greece met the audiences applause like never before.
The brilliance of his composing skills along with his unquestionably
fabulous on-stage gigs, rocked the audience and woke up memories.
The crowd stood still craving for
setlist to be even more extended but sadly this never happened... 3
hours were much too few to enjoy in front of his majesty's presence...
The Wall between him and us never existed...
Time was ticking away and we felt helpless...
Roger, Roger, Roger....!!!!
Dimitris-Takis-Aggelos-Kostas still trembling.... Terra-Vibe proved too small-a-place for an artist of his grandeur!!!
