Hello to all regular visitors, and to new readers of this site which is devoted to the life and works of the band Pink Floyd and its past and present members. The principle aim is to ensure that this site is one of the most up-to-date sources of news and information regarding the careers of Roger, David, Nick, Rick and Syd.
As an example, this was the first Pink Floyd & Roger Waters site to post the final track listing of Roger's new album, "Flickering Flame" - and the first site to review it, as well. We were also pleased to be the first to bring the news of Project 030303 - the 30th Anniversary of Dark Side Of The Moon!
Brain Damage has also chatted with various members of the band, in particular Nick Mason, Floyd manager Steve O'Rourke before his sad passing, many people closely connected with the band, including Storm Thorgerson, and other interviews are in the pipeline! Exciting times are ahead...keep checking back!
As you regulars will have realised, this site has been undergoing some major changes to its format and content, and shows that BRAIN DAMAGE is going from strength to strength with your help and support. This site used to hold a lot of historical information but the overwhelming feedback received indicated that current and future news and events are of most interest. Hence, when the site was redesigned, I have sharpened the focus to what is happening now and next!
Glenn Povey, the creator of Brain Damage, has gladly entrusted the running of the official Brain Damage site to the hands of long-term BD UK Correspondent, Matt Johns. No other site using the name "Brain Damage" has the agreement of Glenn or anyone else involved in the original magazine. Brain Damage is, and has been for many years, an internationally registered trademark.
Most of the work on the site is done by Matt Johns, but others help on a regular basis - in particular Paul Powell Jr., and Elliot Tayman, who is our US publicist and works tirelessly for the site. However, we welcome news, information or help from anyone who wants to contribute...
The site was chosen as one of the few worldwide to host a PINK FLOYD PLAYING CARD by Capitol Records, it is an "official MTV Fan Site" and is a "Cool Site" as designated by the fine people on the DMOZ Open Directory Project. We've also had loads of positive emails praising the hard work we do for you all. Gee, shucks! We try our best!
ABOUT BRAIN DAMAGE - the magazine
Finally, a few words about Brain Damage, the magazine. A full history of it can be found elsewhere on the site, but I have had a number of enquiries from past readers of the magazine. It's probably best to take this opportunity to address some common questions:
The magazine is not currently intended to be printed again - all news, features, interviews, etc., will only be appearing on this site.
This site is run by one of the original contributors to the magazine, coming on board to help Glenn Povey, the creator, soon after Brain Damage started up. It is with Glenn's blessing that we are now running the Brain Damage website.
Unfortunately we cannot make arrangements for you to meet the band, or divulge personal details of them or their management - home addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, etc.
We do not work for any record or video company connected with Pink Floyd or Roger Waters - please don't ask us for free copies of latest releases. Believe me, we DO get asked this all the time - especially from South America, for some reason!
Sadly, Jeff Jensen, the final editor/publisher of the printed version of Brain Damage, lost loads of money keeping the magazine going in the final couple of years of its life, and eventually it had to finish. We at Brain Damage Online do not have access to any of the magazine subscription records, and therefore have no idea if anyone is still owed any issues from their sub, or owed a refund of any sort (nor have the ability to rectify this); this should be taken up if necessary with Jeff.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR - Matt Johns
For those of you who don't know me...for many years I played a part in the fantastic endeavour that was the printed version of "BRAIN DAMAGE" magazine. This was an internationally published and read magazine concerning all aspects of the band, their history, and their music. In the years of its paper life, it went from its creation by Glenn Povey, as a small but enthusiastic booklet, to a full-scale magazine with a glossy colour cover. It was read across the world - in all the continents, in its heyday. As part of the history of the magazine, a number of conventions were held in Britain - with PF cover bands, trivia quizzes, guest stars, memorabilia sales, etc... It is now back in ONLINE form! Exciting things are afoot with this site - keep on checking back so you don't miss out!
As part of my work with Brain Damage, I am on occasion lucky enough to meet various members of the band, and naturally, some of these meetings will be detailed on this site. I've also met a large number of great people - other enthusiasts who I count amongst my best friends!
I've been interested in the band since hearing Dark Side Of The Moon as a nipper in 1973, when things like the clocks going potty and the cash register got my attention! My interest built from there and has not waned since.
