COMMENTS
David Gilmour's 60th birthday was
marked by a large, private party held at the sumptious Porchester Hall
in west London. In an unusual twist, the music at his party was
provided by him and his band - which served as an album launch, and
live debut of the material. It also meant that they were able to
perform their first live show in front of a "safe" audience, in
preparation for the public unveiling that was to follow the next
evening at the Mermaid Theatre for the BBC.
Amongst David's guests were a
number of past and present colleagues, including Robert Wyatt, Nick
Mason, Bob Geldof and Rado ("Bob") Klose. Others there included the
likes of Damon Hill and Ewan McGregor...
The band were said to be on great
form, no doubt a little relaxed as they had little to prove to their
friends and families. Guy Pratt was also reported as doing a small part
of his stand-up show, to much amusement from those assembled.
Finally, a very special, and rather apt cake was made for the occasion...
Our thanks to our contributors for their information on the happenings at the party.
